The small, clip-on Sigmo translation device uses one-line translation services to translate in real-time without needing to access a smartphone directly.
Currently seeking funding on Indiegogo, the Sigmo can translate up to 25 languages in real-time. It is equipped with a microphone, speaker and two buttons to designate the first and second language, and pairs with the user’s smartphone via Bluetooth, which allows it to access pre-existing online translation services. The user sets their native language and the language to translate to, and then presses the first button to have their speech instantly translated into the chosen language. To understand the speaker, the user presses the second button to have the speech from the foreign language translated into the user’s native language.
While this same result can be accomplished by smartphones, the SIGMO’s small size and ease of use helps to keep the conversation more natural.
