Skin Graft Fights Diabetes and Obesity

Skin Graft Fights Diabetes and Obesity
Aug-05-17
A skin graft made from modified skin cells could be used to treat diabetes and obesity.

The team from the University of Chicago created the graft using CRISPR-editing techniques to modify skin cells to produce the GLP1 protein, which has been shown to help treat diabetes and reduce appetite. In tests on mice fed a high-fat diet, the mice with the skin graft gained half the weight and developed less resistance to insulin than those without the graft.
