SkinTrack Turns the Arm Into a Touchscreen

SkinTrack Turns the Arm Into a Touchscreen
May-15-16
The SkinTrack invention expands a smartwatch’s display by turning the wearer’s arm into a touchscreen.

Created by a team from Carnegie Mellon, the SkinTrack system is made up of a signal-emitting ring and a sensing band. As the ring sends electrical signals through the skin, the band’s electrodes detect the varying signals to track distance and movement, effectively expanding the display screen onto the skin. The team reports that the SkinTrack system has an accuracy of about 99 percent, and can also work through shirt sleeves.
