A comfortable pajama shirt able to monitor the wearer ’s sleeping position could make it easier to track cardiovascular health.
Developed by engineers at the University of Massachusetts, the sensors are located in the torso region of the shirt, where they are powered by a fiber-based supercapacitor. In addition to monitoring heart rate and breathing, the shirt can also identify six different sleeping positing, including the ‘log’ and the ‘yearner.’ According to the team, monitoring sleep positions can help to identify sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, and could offer ways to improve sleep patterns.
