Smaller Inverter Saves Money on Solar

Smaller Inverter Saves Money on Solar
Apr-01-12
A new power converter from Ideal Power Converters is much smaller than its contemporaries, and could make solar panel installation more accessible for many people.

While most 30 kilowatt inverters are the size of refrigerators and too large for most homes, the inverter from Ideal is about as large as a suitcase and can be mounted on a wall. The inverters are made smaller through a new technology known as soft switching, which allows regular silicon transistors to switch at very high speeds. This in turn means the conventional heavy transistors can be replaced with smaller, more lightweight components.

The smaller size will make both transportation and installation easier, cutting costs up to 15 cents per watt.
