Smallest Artificial Nose Yet

Smallest Artificial Nose Yet
May-19-18
The team at ETH Zurich has created a small and inexpensive electronic nose that could be used to sniff out disaster victims.

The sensor, said to be the ‘smallest and cheapest’ to date, combines previous sensors able to detect by-products of human metabolism with commercially available sensors that can detect carbon dioxide and moisture. About the size of a computer chip and with a sensitivity equal to that of most ion mobility spectrometers, the tiny sensor can be attached to a handheld device or drone to locate trapped people after avalanches or earthquakes.
