Smart Bandage Holds Multiple Drugs

Smart Bandage Holds Multiple Drugs
Oct-06-17
An innovative smartphone-controlled bandage able to deliver multiple drugs on command could speed healing.

The bandage is made up of conductive fibers coated with a hydrogel that has been embedded with a chosen drug, including painkillers or antibiotics. A postage stamp-sized microcontroller within the bandage can be triggered by an external device—such as a smartphone—to send an electrical current through a specific fiber. That small current heats the fiber and causes the hydrogel to release its cargo of drugs.
