Smart Cane Gives Directions, Monitors Exertion
Feb-27-13
Getting old starts to seem a bit more exciting with the new smart cane from Fujitisu.

The sleekly styled smart cane features a GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi and a cellular radio built into the handle. LEDs on the form simple pictographs to relay direction information, such as green arrows to indicate a turn and a flashing exclamation point to warn that a turn is coming up.

The cane also features a small heart rate monitor built into the handle as well as temperature and humidity monitor. If the device senses the user is becoming too hot or tired, it can automatically call friends or family, who could then set a destination to lead the user to the nearest place to cool off and rest.
