Smart Perfume Responds to Sweat

Smart Perfume Responds to Sweat
Apr-02-15
Researchers have created the first perfume delivery system able to release a fragrance in response to a person's sweat.

The release system consists of an odorless, ionic liquid that has been "tagged" with a raw fragrance. When sweat levels increase, the water in the perspiration triggers the release of the fragrance. The system not only help mask the odor of the sweat with perfume, the salt-based ionic liquid also damages the compounds that cause sweat's distinctive aroma.

According to project leader project leader, Dr Nimal Gunaratne, the delivery system could extend beyond cosmetics, and "… could also be used in others area of science, such as the slow release of certain substances of interest."
