A smart ring able to detect explosives could replace expensive, bulky equipment or trained dogs.
The ring, from a team at the University of California San Diego, is equipped with a sensor able to detect specific compounds. The prototype version can detect both vapor and liquid explosives and nerve agents, with the results transmitted to a paired device for viewing.
According to the team, the ring has reported “minimal false alarms,” and later iterations could be tuned to other compounds.
