Flexible electronics, which have led to everything from cell phones to gadget-charging jeans, could now be used to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

A team from Fraunhofer Institute have developed a one-piece romper outfitted with a sensor system that will monitor the child’s breathing. The suit’s stretchable, printed circuit board, which flexes to fit the contours of the body, was ironed into the suit— keeping the outfit comfortable while monitoring breathing in the chest and stomach areas.

The stretchable circuit board is also being looked into as a more precise and less invasive way way to test kidney functions in patients..
