Smart Textile Neutralizes Nerve Gas

Aug-22-17 Researchers have created a smart textile able to neutralize nerve gas, offering a source of protection for civilians as well as soldiers.

Developed by the team at City College of New York, the smart textile is made up of cotton fabric infused with carbon nitrate. The new material will not only change color in the presence of nerve gas, but will also help to neutralize the effects of the toxin. The textile can be used to make a number of different items, including suits and blankets, and the team is currently working to improve the material’s protection level.
