Soft Exosuit Could Be Worn Under Clothing

Soft Exosuit Could Be Worn Under Clothing
Sep-13-14
The Soft Exosuit, a proof-of-concept soft exoskeleton suit funded by DARPA, can be put on like a pair of pants and could one day help stroke victims to walk.

In development by Harvard researchers, the Soft Exosuit features soft, functional textiles and sensors that have been incorporated into the fabric of the device. The current prototype works via a system of straps equipped with a low-power microprocessor and a network of strain sensors that constantly monitor the user's motions and trigger the embedded cables to add the appropriate assistance.

The development team plans to continue investigating the military applications for the Soft Exosuit while also collaborating with clinical partners to create a medical version as well.
