Soft Origami Gripper Captures Sea Creatures for Safe Study

Soft Origami Gripper Captures Sea Creatures for Safe Study
Jul-20-18
An origami-inspired device able to capture and return sea creatures without harming them aims for a softer touch in research.

The rotatory actuated dodecahedron (RAD) gently grasps the marine creatures with its five ‘petals’ able to fold quickly to capture soft-bodies specimens without harming them. The petals are attached to a series of joints that form a scaffold, allowing the creature to be safely contained when closed and then released after studies have been conducted.
