Soft-Treaded Robots Climb Stairs for Delivery

Soft-Treaded Robots Climb Stairs for Delivery
Jun-01-19
Soft-treaded robots able to climb stairs could one day be delivering packages to your door.

As robots become more ubiquitous in our lives, they remain thwarted by stairs. To help open the door for robot deliveries, the team from Ameoba Energy created a robot with tracks made of a soft EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) material able to deform to climb up any kind of stair. The robot itself is also covered in foam to protect vulnerable humans from accidental damage.

In tests, the EPDM-tracked robot has fared well, and the team is now working on a commercial version of the bot, called AE-01, which they hope could soon enter production and start traveling door-to-door.
