Software Programs 3D Knitting

Software Programs 3D Knitting
Mar-30-18
A new software from Carnegie Mellon could make knitting machines as easy to use as 3D printers.

Industrial knitting machines require complex programming, and so typically are not used to generate on-demand items. To broaden the use of the machines, the team from Carnegie Mellon University developed a software program that can translate 3D shapes into stitch-by-stitch instructions for knitting machines. The software works with the common V-bed knitting machines, though the team hopes to increase that range, and could be used to create custom-fit items for individual customers.
