Solar Cell Stickers

Solar Cell Stickers
Dec-25-12
Researchers have developed thin solar panels flexible enough to attach to almost any surface, just like a sticker.

The team at Stanford University created the panels by applying a thin layer of nickel onto a silicon/silicon dioxide wafer, and then depositing thin-film solar cells onto the nickel using standard fabrication techniques. This was followed by a layer of protective polymer and a layer of thermal release tape, and then the entire material was submerged in room-temperature water. While submerged, one edge of the tape was peeled away to allow the water to seep in and cause the nickel to separate from the wafer, leaving a piece of tape will cell components that can be deposited onto another material.
