Sony Wearable Tracks Glucose Levels

Sony Wearable Tracks Glucose Levels

A prototype wearable from Sony and Ericsson could allow diabetics to track their glucose levels continuously throughout the day.

Still in the prototype phase, the wristband is equipped with Altair’s ALT1210 chipset, which uses low power and is relatively affordable. The device is able to measure sleep patterns, activity and heart rate, and communicates via NFC or Bluetooth to a glucose monitoring system that allows it to send an alert to the user if glucose levels drop.

According to Head of Broadband and Internet of Things (IoT) at Ericsson, Marie Hogan, the wearable “is a great example of how low-cost and power-efficient connectivity can pave the way for a range of industrial and consumer IoT applications.”
