Sound Projector Targets with Permission

Sound Projector Targets with Permission
Aug-05-19
A sound projector inspired by a camera’s zoom lens can deliver a localized area of sound to a moving target.

Created by a team from Sussex University, the sound projector relies on acoustic materials smaller than the wavelength of sound. A low-cost face-tracking system controls the acoustic telescope, which uses that information to project a sphere of sound about six centimeters in diameter at the chosen individual. The system also only works on willing participants, helping ensure people would not be subjected to unwanted audio.
