The spray-on Starpath technology can be applied to any solid surface, where it will harvest UV light during the day to power its blue glow at night.
The technology was developed by Pro-Teq Surfacing, and is inexpensive to apply and maintain. It is applied in layers—a polyurethane base followed by the UV absorbing particles and then topped by a water-resistant finishing coat that also adds durability. The coating is being tested in a park in the UK, where it took only 30 minutes to apply the coating to an area of 1600 square feet. The surface was safe for traffic after just four hours.
The particles will adjust their glow to suit the ambient light, according to Pro-Tec Surfacing owner Hamish Scott, “… almost like it has a mind of its own. Further, the surface is environmentally-friendly and aesthetically pleasing."
