SPRITEs System Eases Browsing for the Visually Impaired
May-29-18
The SPRITEs keyboard system helps the visually impaired navigate web pages using screen readers.

The SPRITEs (Spatial Recognition Interaction Techniques) tool was designed to augment current screen readers by making it easier to identify and read maps, tables and nested lists. Developed by a team from the University of Washington, the SPRITEs tool maps the keyboard to specific locations and functions on the screen, such as menu buttons and tables. Rather than requiring the user to browse the screen linearly, the system lets users get a sense of the site’s structure and go directly to the information they need—making the site much more comfortable to navigate.
