Star-Shaped Delivery Ideal for Monthly Birth Control Pill

Star-Shaped Delivery Ideal for Monthly Birth Control Pill
Dec-08-19
A star-shaped drug delivery capsule can slowly release its cargo of medication in the body for up to four weeks.

Developed by researchers from MIT, the capsule is an evolution of the team’s earlier design, and features a set of arms that will fold to fit inside a small gelatin capsule. Once in the stomach, the six arms will extend, slowly dissolving to release the medication. Whereas earlier versions of the capsule lasted only two weeks in the body, the new version can deliver medication for up to four weeks—ideal for the delivery of contraceptives.
