StickyTouch Tactile Display Increases Adhesion to Indicate Importance

StickyTouch Tactile Display Increases Adhesion to Indicate Importance
Nov-27-19
The StickyTouch tactile display will become sticky in selected areas to help guide the user by feel.

The StickyTouch prototype features a stainless-steel plate covered with a temperature-sensitive polymer film called Intelimer Tape, which is usually smooth and slick. The plate is set over a grid of heating modules that can be controlled via a hardwired computer to heat the tape in specific areas and cause it to become temporarily tacky.

According to the team, the StickyTouch provides both visual and tactile information, and could allow users to find a relevant folder based on stickiness or even encourage efficient device operation by setting increased adhesion levels to particular content.
