The wearable SunUp solar panel can flex for easy carrying without sacrificing energy-harvesting efficiency.
The SunUp was created by Brunel University design student Bradley Brister, and was designed to overcome the low efficiency of thin-film silicon panels typically used in flexible designs, replacing them with triangles of polycrystalline panels joined by a hinge. This hinged arrangement allows the SunUp to flex and fit around an object, such as a backpack, tent or kayak, where the 15-watt system can fully charge a mobile device within twelve hours.
The SunUp was recently announced as the National Runner Up at the James Dyson Award
