SUWAVE Drone Makes Pit Stops on Lakes

SUWAVE Drone Makes Pit Stops on Lakes
Jun-03-17
Inspired by the mallard duck, the SUWAVE VTOL drone travels long distances by making pit stops on lakes.

The SUWAVE (Sherbrooke University Water-Air VEhicle) drone is designed to travel by landing on lakes and then recharging via solar power. The lakes make excellent landing zones not only because they are wide open, but also because the drone can crash land on the water with no damage. After recharging via its solar panels, the drone can then take off from the surface of the water with the help of its novel, rotating center body.
