Swale Project Floats Food to New Yorkers

Swale Project Floats Food to New Yorkers
Apr-27-16
A New York project called Swale aimed to bring floating farms to locals is set to launch soon, offering a novel way for individuals to pick fresh foods.

The result of support A Blade of Grass, the Rolin Foundation and donors, the Swale consists of a 50-foot floating platform that supports an “edible forest garden,” along with the requisite walkways and gangplanks. The crops would be supplied with water from both rain and river water, with the river water being desalinated and filtered of contaminants before being sent to the crops.

According to the team, the Swale Project barge could serve up to 300 people per day for four days a week.
