TacTip Gives Robots Human Touch

TacTip Gives Robots Human Touch
Jan-25-17
The low-cost, TacTip 3D-printed sensor can mimic the sensitivity of human touch.

The sensor, which recently won Harvard's International Soft Robotics competition, was created by the Tactile Robotics Team. The design is open-source, and features an onboard webcam that monitors the movements of pins embedded in the flexible tip. By measuring the deformation of the pins and soft material, the system functions as a tactile sensor, gathering information on specifics such as shape, torque and sheer.
