Hailed as the first truly holographic video conferencing system, the TeleHuman2 can create real-time, full-body holograms in any location.
Developed by a team from Queen’s University, the TeleHuman2 relies on light field technology, which captures and projects the direction of light rays as well as their intensity. A network of cameras captures the image of the subject from all angles and transmits the information to a series of specialized projectors arranged around a pod. The result is a full-sized, 3D image of the subject that looks reasonably crisp from all angles.
According to Roel Vertegaal, the TeleHuman2 could aid in communication by allowing people to convey and read non-verbal cues, such as body language, which are essential to successful group conversations.
