Thermal Earpiece Fights Migraines

Thermal Earpiece Fights Migraines
Jul-09-17
A wearable device from Scion NeuroStim helps treat migraines by cooling and heating the inside of the ear.

The headphone-styled device relies on caloric vestibular stimulation (CVS), which has been shown to stimulate the balance organs in the inner ear and affect brain stem activity associated with migraines. Aluminum earpieces within the padded headphones deliver the thermal current, which can be controlled by the patient via a handheld remote.

In tests, the CVS headphones helped to reduce both the number of migraines and their severity.
