The tiny Thermodo plugs directly into a smarphone’s headphone port to measure the ambient temperature.
The Thermodo, which has already far surpassed its Kickstarter funding goal, is made up of a standard four-pole audio jack with an embedded passive temperature sensor. The device sends an audio signal through the temperature sensor, which then attenuates the signal in relation to the ambient temperature. The attenuation is then detected on the microphone input and calculated by the Thermodo app, resulting in a real-time temperature display.
