ThoraXS Simplifies Chest Tube Insertion

ThoraXS Simplifies Chest Tube Insertion
Mar-10-16
The ThoraXS could help save lives by offering a faster way to insert a chest tube and treat a collapsed lung.

Created by students from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in response to the rash of knife attacks in Israel, the ThoraXS helps treat collapsed lungs by reducing the process of chest tube insertions from minutes to less than 30 seconds. The device can be held in one hand, and is equipped with both a knife feature for quick penetration of the pleural space as well a mechanical opening mechanism. The one-handed operation is easier for medics to perform in the field, and could save lives by allowing the process to performed immediately rather than waiting for arrival at a hospital or clinic.
