Tiny Brain Implant Transmits Data Wirelessly

Tiny Brain Implant Transmits Data Wirelessly
Jul-19-18
A tiny new brain implant can read and transmit brainwaves from deep inside the skull, with no wires or batteries required.

Developed by a team from Purdue University, the electronic chip—about the size of a bit of dust—is made from a commercially available chip modified by the team to hold microelectrodes. The chip is powered by external electromagnetic waves, and can collect electric signals from several nerve endings simultaneously, transmitting the data to a computer. The chip is also flexible, making it safer for implants than rigid materials.
