TOMi Scope Sees Middle Ear Fluid for Better Diagnosis

TOMi Scope Sees Middle Ear Fluid for Better Diagnosis
Jan-09-20
The TOMi Scope from PhotoniCare aids in ear infection diagnosis by letting physicians 'see' the fluid in the middle ear.

Current methods of viewing the ear are limited to the surface of the eardrum, which does not provide much information. The TOMi Scope was created to extend that view by using a light-based technology to provide a measurement of the amount and type of fluid in the middle ear. The device can take accurate readings even through significant amounts of wax, and can also be used to track how the patient is responding to treatment.

According to lead investigator Diego Preciado, M.D., Ph.D., “TOMi Scope’s advanced light-based technology could dramatically alter the way children with ear problems are evaluated, enhancing our ability to inform optimal treatments.”
