Touchscreen System Helps Combat Malnutrition in Older Adults

Touchscreen System Helps Combat Malnutrition in Older Adults
Nov-11-12
Researchers have developed a touchscreen monitoring system designed to help combat the tendency toward malnutrition in older people, particularly those who live alone.

The system, called NANA (Novel Assessment of Nutrition and Ageing), was created for “measuring diet, cognition, mood, and physical function.” It consists of an easy-to-use visual interface, by which users select and record the foods they eat, and a webcam for taking photos of each meal, before and after. The information is then sent to a nutritionist for analysis.

Although the NANA system could be handled by a smartphone, older adults appreciated the larger, stronger desktop interface.
