Treating Motion Sickness with Chewing Gum

Treating Motion Sickness with Chewing Gum
Oct-21-12
A new chewing gum designed to treat motion sickness takes effect more quickly than capsules or pills.

Developed by Mohsen Sadatrezaei of the RoshuDarou pharmaceutical company, the gum contains the active ingredient dimenhydrinate, a commonly-accepted medication for motion sickness. As the gum is chewed, the drug is absorbed through the space between the user’s cheek and gums, which the developers claim allow the medication to reach the user’s system more quickly than conventional ingestion methods.

The team is currently investigating ways to improve the taste of the gum as well as ways to use gum to deliver other kinds of medications.
