Turbine Blades Adjust to Wind Speeds

Turbine Blades Adjust to Wind Speeds
Mar-10-18
An innovative intelligent wind turbine blade twists to compensate for varying wind gusts.

Developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems, the turbine blades feature a “bend-twist coupling” that allows them to rotate on a separate axis to adjust to changes in wind pressure. This adjustment capability protects the blades from strong wind gusts, improving the rotor efficiency while also reducing the weight of the turbine.
