Ultrasound Could Reduce Opioid Reliance

Ultrasound Could Reduce Opioid Reliance
Aug-13-17
A new ultrasound anesthesia delivery method could help reduce the use of opioids.

The process, developed by a team from Boston Children’s Hospital, involves encapsulating the anesthetic inside liposomes and injecting the packets into the body where pain relief is most needed. By also seeding the walls of the liposomes with molecules that produce reactive oxygen species when stimulated by ultrasound waves, the liposomes can be triggered by ultrasound to break up and release the medication.
