Allowing patients to see tongue motions through ultrasound could help improve speech therapy.
Developed by a team from the National Centre for Scientific Research, the technology relies on an ultrasound probe beneath the jaw that captures the motion of the tongue, teeth and palate. An algorithm processes the collected data and sends it to an “articulatory talking head,” allowing the patient and therapist to see the location and movements of the tongue in real-time, greatly enhancing the lesson.
