The VentriGel hydrogel can be injected into the heart to help the damaged tissue heal after an attack.
Developed by Ventrix, the VentriGel hydrogel is made up of the extracellular matrix of pig hearts that has been decellularized while still retaining its structure. When injected into the damaged part of the heart in human volunteers, all patients showed an improvement in the standard walk-test and decreases in the ‘heart failure class.’ According to the team, patients who had experienced a heart attack more than a year before treatment began showed the most marked improvement.
