Vertical Walking Device is a Human-Powered Elevator

Vertical Walking Device is a Human-Powered Elevator
Oct-24-16
The prototype Vertical Walking device uses human power to move a person up several floors with only ten percent of the effort required to climb stairs.

The Vertical Walking device was designed by the Rombaut Frieling lab as an alternative to the power-hungry elevators currently in use. The prototype relies on an arrangement of upright rails, pulleys, and a gripping system that allows the user to raise the unit by pulling on the rails. The Vertical Walking device has been used successfully by people with different abilities, including an amputee.
