VocaliD Creates Individualized Voices for the Speech Impaired

VocaliD Creates Individualized Voices for the Speech Impaired
Sep-22-13
By blending actual voices with an individual’s speech patterns, the VocaliD is able to create synthesized voices without the computerized sound.

The technique, known as voice morphing, was created by a team a Northeastern University with the goal of giving people with vocal disorders a more individualized voice. Based on the fact that even speechless people can still make sounds, the technology captures characteristics of the person’s voice and uses those characteristics to create the new, computer-aided voice. The technology can also be applied to people who have been diagnosed with a neuro-degenerative disease by capturing their speech soon after diagnosis and building the new voice from that.
