A Canadian startup hopes to harvest carbon dioxide from the air using a wally of giant fans, and then use the CO2 to make fuel.
The company, called Carbon Engineering, has built a pilot plant to demonstrate the technology. As the fans suck in outside air, the air blows over a liquid that turns the carbon dioxide into salt. The salt can then be collected and stored or transformed into a synthetic fuel. According to the company, “Our full-scale design, for example, could absorb the emissions created by 300,000 typical cars.”
