Wearable MRI Images Moving Joints

Wearable MRI Images Moving Joints
May-14-18
A wearable MRI detector able to image moving joints could have important applications in surgeries.

Developed by a team from NYU Langone Health, the glove overcomes the limitations of MRI scanners, which require the subject lay perfectly still. In contrast, the MRI glove is equipped with high impedance detector structures, which block current. Researchers are then able to measure the force of the magnetic waves as they try to establish a current, eliminating the need for the detectors to be stationary.

The new MRI device delivers images of a moving hand that are clear and high-resolution, and could offer significant insights into the functions of soft-tissue mechanics as well as usher in “a new era of MRI design.”
