Wearable Onesie Treats Infant Jaundice

Nov-01-17 Light therapy pajamas could offer a more comfortable treatment for infants born with jaundice.

Babies born with jaundice are commonly treated with light therapy while lying blindfolded and alone in an incubator. To help provide a less traumatic alternative, the team from the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology developed a material woven through with optical fibers able to direct the healing light onto the baby’s skin. The eliminates the need for the incubator or blindfold, and the material is said to be as comfortable as a standard onesie.
