Wearable Solar Clothing Line

Jun-26-13 Augmented with flexible solar cells, the Wearable Solar clothing line combines the power of fashion with the power of the sun.

A “mix of fashion and technology,” the Wearable Solar line is the result of a collaboration between a team of designers and researchers from the Netherlands. The prototype items include a coat and a dress. The coat is made with rigid solar feature flaps embedded in flaps that can be opened when the sun is shining, while the solar cells within the dress are more flexible—which makes the cells less efficient but easier to wear.

The team hopes to refine the technology further, creating solar-gathering clothing that is both appealing and easy to wear.
