WiGait Monitors Walk to Detect Disease

WiGait Monitors Walk to Detect Disease
May-01-17
The wall-mounted WiGait sensor from MIT can measure the walking speeds of individuals without the need for wearables.

The picture-sized sensor is meant to be hung on the wall, where it will transmit low-power radio signals to determine the walking patterns of multiple people at once. The WiGait system can work through walls, with a radius of between 9 and 12 meters, and can detect walking speeds with a 95 to 99 percent accuracy. And since it does not require a wearable to function, it is less obtrusive than similar systems.

The team hopes the WiGait could help lead to a comprehensive, in-home, non-invasive health monitoring system.
