Wind Tree Replaces Blades with Leaves

Wind Tree Replaces Blades with Leaves
Dec-31-14
Taking inspiration from the trees, the New Wind Wind Tree blends into the surroundings by replacing a large turbine prop with hundreds of tiny leaves.

Created by New Wind, the Wind Tree's blades are contained within the tree's leaf-shaped structures. The blades spin inwards, which allows the tiny leaf units to turn to follow the wind and generate power in winds as low as 4.5 miles per hour, and its operation is nearly silent—making the Wind Tree attractive for use near residences and in urban areas.

According to designer Jérôme Michaud-Larivière, the Wind Tree could be used to take advantage of the tiny, yet useful, wind currents that snake through city streets.
