Researchers have developed wood computer chips that will biodegrade in a landfill, helping to reduce the waste created by today’s imminently-upgradable gadgets.
Developed by a team from the University Madion-Wisconsin, the wood-based computer chip is made of wood waste that has been treated under high pressure to reduce the wood fibers into a gel made up of cellulose nanofibers. This gel is then freeze-dried, which removes the water to leave behind the nanofibers that are then used in the chip’s non-CNF circuitry.
