Wooden Jeans are Greener Jeans

Wooden Jeans are Greener Jeans
Feb-17-13
Wooden jeans, made from the pulp of the eucalyptus tree, could offer a greener alternative to conventional, cotton jeans.

Dawn Ellams, a Ph.D researcher at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, developed the jeans by using eucalyptus pulp that had been spun to create a cotton-like yarn called Tencel. To increase the authentic jeans effect, Ellams also gave the material a stone-washed denim look by using digital printing technology to print the design onto the textile.

Jeans made from the Tencel fabric use only fifth of the energy, water and chemicals required to create cotton jeans.
