The Digits sensor from Microsoft is a wearable sensor, able to read the position of the user's hand and create a 3D model in realtime.

To construct the model of a “fully articulated hand skeleton”, Digits uses an infrared light sensor combined with software able to interpret the hand movements. The infrared laser beam projects a thin line of light across the hand to measures the distance and angle of the user's fingers, while a ring of infrared light emitting diodes determine the position of the fingertips.

Applications for the device include gaming, controlling computers with gestures and dialing a smartphone without actually touching the phone.
